The Meaning:

4 People representing the 4 aspects of the Medicine Wheel, the Directions and the Races. All connected in mind, working hand in hand together.

NORTH (BUFFALO)

Colour: White – direction of movement

Mental Aspect: Place of Wisdom

Wisdom is gained from the lessons learned in life. We have learned wisdom from today’s lesson of new knowledge. A healthy mind brings a healthy Mom & baby.

EAST (EAGLE)

Colour: Red - Keepers of Mother Earth

Spiritual Aspect: Place of Illumination & Clarity

Clarity comes when things fit together and make sense. Like Eagle, illumination comes from seeing the whole picture. Today, it means the vision of healthy communities.

SOUTH (COYOTE)

Colour: Yellow – Loyalty and noble passion are the teachings of the yellow race

Emotional Aspect: Place of trust & innocence.

Coyote teaches us the beauty of trust & innocence through his trickster self. Coyote teaches us to listen to the child within ourselves, in order to handle any situation. Today, we are the voices for our children, and the children are our future.

WEST (BEAR)

Colour: Black – direction of reason

Physical Aspect: Place of Introspection – the place of all tomorrows.

Introspection comes from finding our own answers, we do this by “going within”. Bear teaches us – by seeking ‘silence,’ our inner-knowing will guide us. Today, exercising our bodies, helps balance a healthy mind and spirit.

The Medicine Wheel

The mental, spiritual, emotional, and physical aspects of self must be cared for with kindness and love. The Medicine Wheel teaches us values, traditions, and respect for our selves, and our babies yet to be born.
