Research Advisory Committee | Aboriginal Advisory Committee | Youth Committee

The Research Advisory Committee (RAC) is designed to provide research direction and overview regarding research conducted by, and through, the Centre. The RAC is composed of members of our Research Associates, who are a group of progressive researchers – academics, consultants, community researchers, and independent researchers concerned with social, environmental, and economic issues of concern to the Aboriginal community – and are engaged in public policy research.

Members of the RAC are nominated by the existing members of the RAC and appointed by the Board of Directors. They RAC consists of researchers from various disciplines, and will include academics, researchers from the community and environmental groups, and independent researchers. Equity balance will be considered when making RAC nominations and appointments.

The RAC meets bi-monthly or quarterly as necessary, and assists the CNPR in the following tasks:

  • Producing research for publication;
  • Soliciting research from other progressive researchers;
  • Reviewing research proposals, papers and articles specific to their areas of expertise submitted to the Centre, and recommending acceptance, revision, or rejection, as appropriate in order to maintain the high quality of the Centre’s research and publications;
  • Pro-actively identifying research projects requiring attention, and assisting the Board of Directors in the development of a research agenda;
  • Offering advice and research expertise to the staff and Board of Directors, and public commentary on issues (if asked to speak on behalf of the Centre);
  • Developing a database of progressive BC researchers and the work they are doing; and,
  • Identifying and nominating potential new Research Associates and new RAC members.

The RAC has a Chair which is elected for a two-year term, and may speak on behalf of the Society in matters of public policy.

The following is a list of the Centre’s Research Advisory Committee, many of whom are able to give talks or provide media commentary.
